Our history

Ai-TEC started in 2009 with a clear focus on commercial heating plant, and that focus has stayed the same through every stage of the business. From the early years to the team based in Jet Park today, the work has grown through steady service, practical engineering and long-term client support.

2009: A Gauteng base and a clear technical focus

Ai-TEC began in 2009 with a simple idea: commercial and industrial heating equipment needs proper support from people who understand the plant, the pressures and the downtime risk. The business started from the Gauteng side of the market, serving factories, warehouses, laundries, food sites and other operations that could not afford long stoppages. From the beginning, the work covered boilers, calorifiers, inline heaters and incinerators, with maintenance, repairs and supply handled as part of one service. That approach made sense then and still does now.

In those early years, the emphasis was on staying close to the plant and keeping customers going through breakdowns, planned shutdowns and seasonal load changes. South African sites often run with limited spare capacity, so a heating failure can affect production, hygiene and compliance in one go. The business built its name on turning out quickly, diagnosing properly and explaining the next step in plain language, not with a lot of noise.

2010 to 2013: From first clients to repeat service work

As the first client sites came on board, the workload widened from one off repairs to regular servicing and maintenance contracts. This period helped shape the way Ai-TEC works today. Instead of waiting for plant to fail, the team started planning around annual inspections, combustion tuning, water treatment checks and scheduled shutdowns. That reduced emergency costs and gave operators better control over energy use and equipment life.

The business also learned early how local conditions affect plant. Gauteng water quality, scale build up, dusty plant rooms and uneven power supply all place strain on heating systems. At the coast, humidity brings a different set of problems, while inland sites often deal with hard water and dry air. Those lessons pushed Ai-TEC toward practical maintenance methods that suit South African conditions rather than textbook assumptions.

  • Boiler servicing linked to production schedules
  • Calorifier maintenance for steady hot water supply
  • Inline heater repairs for process continuity
  • Incinerator servicing with safety and emissions in mind

2014 to 2016: Expanding the team and service capability

By the middle years, the business had grown beyond a small field response operation. More structured project work came in, including plant refurbishments, refractory relining and larger repair jobs that required careful shutdown planning. This is also when the team began to develop stronger internal coordination between service, fabrication and project management, so jobs could move from inspection to repair without delay.

The growth in capability came with better defined roles. Pieter Fourie led the business as managing director, with Lerato Maseko overseeing operations, Pieter van der Merwe handling projects, Zanele Dlamini coordinating service calls, Musa Khumalo focusing on boiler technician work, Ayesha Patel managing commercial work and Johan Smit supervising fabrication. That mix meant clients could speak to the right person first time, whether the issue was a leaking shell, tired controls, scaling in a calorifier or a combustion fault that had started costing real money.

2017 to 2019: Strengthening the name

During these years, the business continued to carry the original focus on commercial and industrial boiler support. The history here matters, because it reflects a proper trading record rather than a short term setup. Ai-TEC remained associated with supply and maintenance of boilers, calorifiers, inline heaters and incinerators, and the online presence was used to support that work and keep the market informed. The continuity gave customers a clear point of contact and a stable place to return to when plant issues came back after a shutdown or season change.

Those years also reinforced the value of national reach. Although the base stayed in Jet Park, Boksburg, service teams could move to sites across Gauteng and beyond when required. That included Boksburg, Kempton Park, Germiston, Pretoria, Midrand and Sandton, plus jobs further afield when the plant and timing justified it. For clients, the benefit was simple: one supplier with local response and wider project support. for a maintenance manager that can save hours on the phone and days on the schedule.

  • Jet Park base for dispatch and workshop support
  • Service coverage across Gauteng suburbs and industrial areas
  • Emergency callouts when plant cannot wait
  • Planned shutdown support for annual work and inspections

2020 to 2022: Keeping plant running through tighter pressure

When operating conditions became tighter across many industries, the value of dependable plant support became even more obvious. Customers needed quicker response times, better planning and more efficient energy use from the systems they already had. Ai-TEC kept working through that period with a focus on maintenance, tuning and refurbishment that could extend plant life instead of forcing early replacement. In practical terms, that meant checking combustion settings, addressing worn refractories, restoring heat transfer and sorting control issues before they turned into bigger faults.

The team also kept a close eye on water treatment support and inspection planning, because neglected water quality can shorten the life of boilers and calorifiers very quickly. A small amount of scale or corrosion can raise fuel use and reduce output, which is the sort of problem that only shows up once the unit has been monitored properly. That experience has remained part of the company’s history and still shapes the advice given today.

Today: The original business carried forward with the same practical purpose

Today, Ai-TEC continues from the earlier years with the same core service offering and the same hands-on approach. The business supports commercial and industrial clients with boiler servicing, calorifier maintenance, inline heater repairs, incinerator servicing, emergency callouts, combustion tuning, refractory relining, water treatment support, annual inspections and plant refurbishment. It is still a Gauteng based operation at heart, with national service teams where the job calls for it.

What has changed over time is the scale of experience, the clarity of process and the strength of the team. What has not changed is the expectation that work must be done properly, safely and on time. Clients come to Ai-TEC when they need practical engineering, not sales talk. That has been true since 2009 and it remains the basis of the business now.
